Automatic location is obtained through the i911 interface through a partnership with RapidSOS. The RapidSOS NG911 Clearinghouse, a secure source of device location and additional emergency data, links millions of connected devices to 911 and first responders through public safety software integrators like i911. Through this partnership with RapidSOS, agencies using i911 will now have access to life-saving fast and accurate device-based caller location data from millions of enabled smartphone devices.
i911 users from Primary PSAPs (Public Safety Answering Points) are prompted by the i911 web application to enable the RapidSOS integration by applying at https://info.rapidsos.com/i911-by-callyo. After submission, RapidSOS will contact you to verify your details. Jurisdiction geofences are also created, and approved by device companies. Note, this process can take several weeks. Following a successful review, RapidSOS will issue credentials to their NG911 Clearinghouse, and notify Callyo and the agency of the approval. At this point, Callyo will ensure the automatic location is integrated for the agency within the i911 solution and emergency callers in the agency’s geographic boundary will then be eligible for automatic location through the i911 interface.
Is RapidSOS required to use i911?
No. Location via SMS is available to all verified first responders with an i911 account. However to enable the automated process, RapidSOS service is required. Apply here for RapidSOS integration: https://info.rapidsos.com/i911-by-callyo
